Everyone loves going home for the holidays.  Just sitting around and eating a bunch of food resonates with most people.  Now that many people live miles and hours away from their family the holidays come around and so does spending.  Let’s face it, most of us have a hard time budgeting for the holidays and even then we over spend.  Not to mention the cost of traveling always increases during the holidays.  It is a wonder why we even put ourselves through this hay day.  There are solutions.  There are always solutions if you put some time into research. They are simple and basic and they will save you thousands and thousands over time.  We will show you some of the tricks and loopholes of traveling and finding holiday deals.  

Start the searching process for flights and hotel 3 months early…the earlier the better.  If you begin your shopping 3 to 4 months before the holidays then prices will be 5%-85% cheaper than prices closer to the holiday.  Also, try to book your flights through a booking company like cheapflights.com or Travelocity.  There are positives and negatives to using these travel companies though.  Sometimes you can find really great deal.  The down side is that a lot of times they are non-refundable.  If you have to change a flight they will charge upwards of $200 just to reschedule a flight.  This is because the airlines will not let you book a flight and then reschedule.  Make sure you can commit to the date you book a flight before using an online booking company.

The online booking companies also offer great holiday deals and packages not only for flights but also for hotels, car rentals and vacation packages.  Again, book way early to save the most money.  Generally, the closer you are to the holiday the more the travel expenses.  

Make sure you compare all airlines and booking companies and give yourself plenty of time to do this.  A good week comparison is great every once in a while because you can find a special holiday deal that one company offers and others do not.  Check one-way flights with different airlines and booking companies.  Sometimes, you can find cheaper one ways flights.  Don’t forget that many airlines have the extra baggage fee and that will up the cost of flying.

Many people over look online coupons.  They are easy to find if you Google the term you will find an abundance of them.  Some of them will want you to fill out a bunch of personal information.  It is recommended to skip this because you can find just as good coupons with a little searching.  

If you are traveling by cruise liner for the holiday there are some great holiday deals that you can find. You can actually travel at 75% the cost if you search 3-6 months early or book your trip the week the cruise leaves because extra seats might be available. No cruise liners like to leave with empty spaces and it actually happens quite often. If you can liberate your schedule to leave and book that late then you can enjoy an amazing cruise for a quarter of the price.
